The 1st Super Steve Stroll Raises Awareness of Mesothelioma and Monies to Find a Cure

December 21, 2012 – On March 11, 2011, Steve Tiberio, loving father, husband, friend, co-worker and firefighter, lost his battle to mesothelioma. Steve was a Volunteer Firefighter for 31 years with Oakmont Fire Company in Havertown, Pennsylvania and worked at the US Philadelphia Mint. In loving memory of Steve, the 1st Super Steve Stroll was held on Sunday, September 16, 2012.

Team Super Steve is a group of friends, family, and co-workers who first banned together in March, 2011, to show their support of Steve as he received treatment for mesothelioma. Numbering 60, they participated in a 1-mile walk, 5k and 10k run at Wissahickon High School at “Get the Lead Out.” Later that year, they participated in the “Live Strong Challenge”, and again this year they gathered to do the “Get the Lead Out” race which was held in Steve’s memory. At each event, the group of Steve’s supporters has grown.

Held at the Oakmont Fire Company, the 1st Super Steve Stroll included 225 participants and raised over $6,000. All donations from the event were presented to Penn Medicine’s Mesothelioma and Pleural Program to further their research. Steve’s supporters are already planning next year’s event with the goal to continue to raise awareness and research money to find a cure for mesothelioma.

The Benjamin Shein Family Foundation was a proud sponsor of the 1st Super Steve Stroll. Ben Shein is a member of the Super Steve team and participates in its events.
