June, 1, 2014 – The Cuthbert Cancer Foundation was established by the family of Bud Cuthbert who lost his life after a painful battle with mesothelioma. The Foundation seeks to help other families impacted by the deadly disease through support of research and patient care initiatives. Recently, the organization hosted the 3rd Annual Cuthbert Golf Invitational at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
The annual Cuthbert Golf Invitational raises funds through corporate sponsorship and private donations. Lead sponsors include The Shein Law and The Benjamin Shein Family Foundation. More than 100 Philadelphia-area golfers participated in this year’s event.
Over the past three years, the Cuthbert Cancer Foundation has supported research at the Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania and established the Bud Cuthbert Research and Patient Care Fund. This Fund advances the mesothelioma research work of Dr. Joseph Friedberg and Dr. Stephen Hahn to aide those affected by asbestos-related cancer. This is a continuous effort as the Cuthbert Cancer Foundation has pledged the sum of $250,000 over the next 5 years to support the efforts of the Abramson Cancer Center in its fight against mesothelioma.
