December 5, 2012 – The Cuthbert Cancer Foundation was established by the family of Bud Cuthbert, a victim of mesothelioma who passed in March, 2011. The Foundation helps patients and families impacted by the incurable asbestos-related cancer. On April 30, 2012, the Cuthbert Cancer Foundation hosted its first Annual Cuthbert Golf Invitational raising over $50,000 from corporate sponsors and private donors, including The Benjamin Shein Family Foundation.
Held at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania, the Golf Invitational hosted more than 100 Philadelphia-area golfers. The monies raised were donated to Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania to establish the Bud Cuthbert Research and Patient Care Fund. The Cuthbert Fund will be used specifically to advance the work of Dr. Joseph Friedberg and Dr. Stephen Hahn. In addition, the Cuthbert Cancer Foundation has pledged $250,000 over the next 5 years to support the efforts of the Abramson Cancer Center in its fight against mesothelioma.
