Philadelphia Asbestos Attorney Discusses Local Asbestos Clean Up at Valley Forge National Historical Park

October 22, 2012 – Scheduled to begin in spring 2013, Pennsylvania-based contractors will oversee 80% of the clean-up of the asbestos release site at Valley Forge National Historical Park. The site is located within the park between County Line Road and Station Lane. These 112 acres of the park’s land is contaminated with asbestos and other hazardous materials as a result of the work of Ehret Manufacturing Company and its successor, the Keene Corporation. The companies manufactured asbestos insulation for over 80 years in a plant that was located on what is now park ground.

Overhaul of the hazardous asbestos-contaminated area is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2014. Clean-up efforts will be overseen by the National Park Service.  The remediation contracting team led by Frontier Services, Inc. will dig up the asbestos-contaminated soil and transport it to proper discarding facilities. After the clean-up is completed, a final survey will take place. This will include an archaeological survey to guarantee that archaeological resources will not be affected. The area will be re-opened to the public after the remediation is completed.
